Assess Yourself

You will also need to assess the potential strengths and vulnerabilities that you bring into your new situation. A way to do this is to ask what kinds of problems you like to solve, and what kinds of problem situations you like to avoid. What has made you successful so far in your career? Also, by asking yourself what qualities have made you successful in the past might prove to make you vulnerable in your new role. As Marshall Goldsmith points out in his recent best seller, “What got you here, won’t get you there.”

Ask this question: Write out your strengths and vulnerabilities for this business situation and ask a colleague to give you feedback.
